Many people say that the question, "Why?" is not a good idea. They say that it feels confrontational, or aggressive. But I say, "Why?" is often the best question. It's the question that gets to the place in our human brains where decisions are made.
Simon Sinek delivers a TEDTalk that presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why"?". If you’re a leader (and we all are), check this out and see if you’re using the best approach to get people to do what you want them to do. The world of ‘motivation’ has been turned upside down by people like Daniel Pink and Dan Airley, but the golden circle is a brain-based strategy that will work until evolution takes us to the next level…a few million years away.
The “Why?” strategy works because it focuses on changing behavior. It is the only way to change behavior. Use it with your team, your family, your spouse and let me know what happens!
